Machinal

Work, marry, give birth, and produce capital. For the Young Woman- any young women really- finding freedom in our increasingly capitalistic society is a life-long and oppressive struggle. How can a cog in the system break free with their mind intact? Sophie Treadwell's expressionistic play explores mental illness and feminism.

I worked as the associate lighting designer alongside Michael Jarett. Together we sought to get inside the Young Woman's head and match the world to her psyche.

Thank you to Aaron Sutten for these photos.
